Sustainability – Our strategy

The area of sustainability mainly includes our cooperation with Climate Partner to guarantee CO2 neutral productions and thus contribute to environmental protection. Elanders’ sustainability work is based on the UN’s global goals, which is why we have drawn up four focus areas that are relevant to the company. We focus not only on the environment and climate, but also on employees, social conditions, and ethics and anti-corruption. If you want to learn more about sustainability in our company, you should read on!

How guaranteed
Elanders
Sustainability?

Climate protection, sustainability and environmental protection are on everyone’s lips.

Many people and also companies are increasingly asking themselves what they can do to act more sustainably. As a global group, we are aware that sustainability must be treated with great attention and is an integral part of the company’s strategy that is here to stay. Elanders sees this as both a responsibility and a business opportunity that can provide great opportunities to add value and improve profitability. Especially in this day and age, the area of the environment and climate must be treated with special attention. It is important to us not only to offer quality products, but also to make production sustainable. Thanks to the cooperation with Climate Partner we want to guarantee CO2 neutral productions as well as compensate CO2 to have a positive impact on the environment. This also includes the field of transport solutions.

SUSTAINABLE EVERYDAY

What can we do today:

To ensure sustainability, however, we should not limit ourselves to environmental aspects alone – our employees are just as important. Shared values as well as equal opportunities contribute to sustainability and ensure success. Although ensuring fair working conditions at all levels is a given, constant attention and follow-up is also a necessity. Additionally, Elanders does not tolerate any type of corruption or bribery, which means that the number of corruption incidents is an important metric to monitor. We have optimized these four approaches to sustainability work in the company over the years and would like to present them to you in more detail below.

CONCRETE measures

Our measures for a more sustainable future

ENVIRONMENT & CLIMATE

In the area of the environment and climate, we focus primarily on materials, energy consumption, and emissions.
Not only the production of products has a negative impact due to CO2 emissions, but also transports. Transportation contributes to noise, air pollution, acidification, eutrophication, and increased greenhouse effects. The energy is mainly used for manufacturing, heating, lighting and cooling. We do this in order to make a sustainable contribution to environmental protection as a global company with many production sites:

  • DHL additional service Go Green: Parcels are shipped climate-neutral.
  • Increased use in the home office: savings in CO2 emissions, workspace used sensibly through workstation sharing.
  • Online meetings and training: Saving on travel costs, meetings online rather than on-site.
  • Use of a photovoltaic system
  • Energy-efficient transport solutions: Testing electric trucks
  • Reduction of energy consumption: renewable energies

EMPLOYEES

As a global company with various locations in around 20 countries, Elanders employs more than 7,000 people.

Sustainability is not to be neglected in this area – after all, motivated employees contribute to the development and success of the company. Active human resources work is particularly important to us.

We do this to make our HR work sustainable:

  • Continuous training: Creating awareness of shared values
  • Central monitoring: Every two years, ensuring that the Code of Conduct and Anti-Corruption Policy have been disseminated to all
  • Creating shared values
  • Equal opportunities and diversity in the company
  • Health and safety of all employees

SOCIAL CONDITIONS

Since our work extends to different continents, it is essential to deal with social conditions and human rights.

Fair working conditions are a matter of course for us, but they should be regularly checked and ensured. In the CSR area, i.e. Corporate Social Responsibility, we take it upon ourselves to be among the best. We do this to ensure social justice and have a positive impact:

  • Code of conduct in the company
  • Support for regional/local projects
  • Equal rights and conditions for all employees

ETHICS AND ANTI-CORRUPTION

An ethical and transparent approach is fundamental to Elanders.

We thereby aim to reduce the risk of conflicts of interest and develop a profitable and sustainable company with a strong brand

We do this in order to operate sustainably in the areas of ethics and anti-corruption:

  • Comply with all applicable laws and regulations: both local and international
  • Anti-corruption policy: Includes all employees, the Board of Directors and other persons acting on behalf of Elanders.

CLIMATE TARGETS

The Elanders Group, including Elanders Print & Packaging, pursues high goals to protect our climate.

We are aware of our responsibility for the climate and our environment and have therefore set ourselves the goal of protecting them sustainably.

Our goals:

Greenhouse gas emission reduction targets Elanders has set targets for greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions. GHG reduction targets are both short- and long-term.

  • By 2030, Elanders will reduce GHG emissions in scopes 1 and 2 by 50 percent and emissions in scope 3, which relates to its own operations, by 30 percent.
  • By 2040, Elanders will reduce GHG emissions by 75 percent within Areas 1 and 2.
  • By 2050, Elanders will achieve net zero emissions throughout the value chain. The basis for the above targets is the year 2021. In 2021, Scope 1 and 2 emissions were approximately 27 and 17 thousand tons of CO2 e, respectively. Scope 3 emissions data are currently being collected and calculated.
